Top Stand Out Brand of 2014

"The Coolest is the Cadillac of ice chests with a blender, phone charging station, speakers, wheels and more. Their goal was to raise $50,000 but instead they raised over $13 million which was the top fundraiser in Kickstarter history. They did a great commercial. They told a couple of different stories on how they got the idea and how the product came to be. Time Magazine named ‘The Coolest’ one of the best inventions of 2014." ~Joshua Lee

Challenging Trend in Social Marketing

"The biggest problem is the conflicting goals on social platforms. Most people using it still see it as a place to connect with friends and family. They dislike or are at least wary of ads. Businesses see it as this vast marketplace and are pummeling it with messaging and ads. It's getting so cluttered people are scattering. They're getting overwhelmed. It's going to get back to a more one-on-one and personal connection level." ~Joshua Lee

Attention Challenges of Social Marketing by the Numbers

"Each Facebook user averages between 150 and 200 friends. If each of those friends just posts twice per day that's 300 to 400 messages in your newsfeed. This doesn't count advertisements, groups, or pages you’ve liked. Users with jobs and families spend maybe 20 to 30 minutes per day. That's a ton of messages to scan through and if 1 catches their eye, that may be 5 or 10 minutes burned right there. The difficulty grabbing attention for a brand or business’ message is only getting tougher." ~Clint Evans

Introvert? Become a Better Networker

"There's no magic bullet for introverts. Just start doing some of the practice. Set a belief in your mind that networking is an important piece to getting where you want to go in life, career and business. You'll have to meet certain people who become allies and you help each other get where you want to go. Go to random events where you meet people you'll likely never see again to practice. This way when you crash and burn or look weird while improving your skills, it doesn't hurt your career or business."

How to 10X Your Productivity

"Productivity resolution -- make sure I'm optimizing my time between business and personal. If you burn out by trying to get too many tasks done too fast, it’s no good. When you have the 4 pillars of your life humming as a team (relationships, health, spirituality, business) that's when you get 10X productivity in all areas of your life."

Question one

What newer brand or product had the most striking brand image this year (in terms of logo, packaging, etc.) and why did it stand out?

Josh's thought process

"There are so many new products and vested brands coming out all the time. One cool discovery place not often talked about with brands is Kickstarter. One striking brand that launched there this year is called ‘The Coolest'. It's the Cadillac of ice chests with a blender, phone charging station, speakers, wheels and more. Their goal was to raise $50,000 but instead they raised over $13 million which was the top fundraiser in Kickstarter history. They did a great commercial. They told a couple of different stories on how they got the idea and how the product came to be. Time Magazine named ‘The Coolest’ one of the best inventions of 2014."

Clint's thought process

"The marketing on ‘The Coolest’ was very well done. The product creator told stories of how he was at a beach volleyball party and someone wanted margaritas. This sparked his idea for putting a blender on the ice chest. He talked about a different party where someone's phone was dying and they wished a charger was near. He wove these stories in to the origin of how he came up with the idea that solves problems and wants people had from their regular ice chests."

Question two

What's your most audacious prediction about how social marketing will change in the new year?

Question three

What is one tip you would offer an introvert who wants to network more at events, but genuinely struggles?

Josh's thought process

"The biggest thing I see with introverts is still hiding behind a business card. It's difficult but you've got to get rid of that crutch. Channel that introvert and truly be who you are. Just practice introducing yourself and carrying on a conversation for 2 or 3 minutes. Concentrate on who they are and why they’re there, don't go straight into business or where they work. It's difficult to advise because I'm an extrovert. But these are the 'turn offs' I see introverts doing."

Question four

What is your #1 productivity resolution for 2015?

Josh's thought process

see top shareable #5

Clint's thought process

"Energy is your fuel to better productivity. This comes from what you eat and of course your spiritual and emotional energy being recharged and with a 'full tank'. When you provide your brain the quality micronutrients and glucose it needs, it will be more creative to solve those business problems faster. It's tough to do, but deciding on what your mission is and only doing those mission-critical tasks is the key to higher productivity. You may need to journal or meditate or by some other means get clarity on your mission and the subsequent mission-critical tasks."
